High Desert Frameworks! Features Cristina Acosta and Paul Alan Bennett in the Bend Gallery Association's July 3rd event “Oregon by the Dozen”

High Desert Frameworks! in Downtown Bend, Oregon will feature work by Cristina Acosta and Paul Alan Bennett during the month long silent auction event benefiting Arts Central Educational & Resource Center.

CA-CristinaAcosta-Oregon150-96-650 The Bend Gallery Association's “Oregon by the Dozen” fundraiser for Arts Central kicks off during the July 3, 2009 First Friday Gallery Walk with a silent auction in each of the twelve participating galleries, including High Desert Frameworks! Bidding continues through July, followed by the group exhibit and auction finale on August 7 at the Arts Central Educational & Resource Center, located in the historic Goodwillie-Allen-Rademacher House (formerly Mirror Pond Gallery) in downtown Bend.

High Desert Frameworks! will feature new work by Cristina Acosta and Paul Alan Bennett. Cristina's painting, titled “Autumn Geese,” combines color and and her signature fluid line to capture the energy and beauty of Canadian Geese as they land in early evening. Paul Alan Bennett will debut another image from his highly successful “Imaginary Landscapes” series, inspired by the mountains, rivers and night skies of High Desert Country.

The twelve Bend Gallery Association members who are participating in the silent auction include Art Impressions, Atelier 6000, BICA, Glass Symphony, High Desert Frameworks!, Karen Bandy Studio, Lubbesmeyer Fiber Studio & Gallery, Mockingbird Gallery, Sage Custom Framing & Gallery, and Tumalo Art Co. Participating artists include Cristina Acosta, Paul Alan Bennett, Pat Clark, Amy Anderson, Alexis West, Kate McLeod, Karen Bandy, Lori & Lisa Lubbesmeyer, Michael Cassidy, Ken Roth, Denise Rich, and Janice Druian.  Each artist has created a canvas that is “20 x 20”, which will hang in various locations for the first part of the month, before moving to the Group Exhibit and auction finale on August 7th.

In conjunction with the Oregon 150 – a year-long celebration of our state's 150 birthday  – communities host events that honor the people, places and organizations that have been – and continue to be - sources of inspiration and discovery. For 15 years, Arts Central operated Mirror Pond Gallery before closing its doors.   Recent events may have altered the face, but certainly not the cultural value that Arts Central provides to our Central Oregon community, and High Desert Frameworks! is honored to be able to participate in this fund raiser directly benefiting the new Arts Central Educational & Resource Center, located at 875 NW Brooks Street, Bend,  Oregon 97701.

High Desert Art Gallery Bend Oregon: Brick n' Mortar at the Oxford Hotel

It's time for a High Desert Gallery Construction Update!

HDG-Oxford-0309-1-96-650 The Oxford Hotel, a seven story full service boutique hotel in Downtown Bend Oregon is taking shape and will have approximately 56 large suites, many with balconies that overlook downtown. High Desert Gallery will occupy nearly 2000 square feet on the retail ground floor and be one of two retail establishments. Convenient parking for the gallery and hotel will be provided on street and in the city parking structure adjacent to the hotel.

The new Oxford Hotel, a Baney Corporation property, is being built at 10 NW Minnesota Street on the corner of Lava near Bond Street. Across the street is Staccato at the Firehall and one of my favorite coffee shops, Thump Coffee. Thump hosts monthly artist exhibitions and participates in First Friday Art Walk. Stop in next time you are in the area, grab a coffee and scone and watch the High Desert Gallery at the Oxford Hotel take shape.

Although the construction schedule isn't finalized and due to the complexity of the project we can't provide an exact open date but we do plan on being open in the Summer of 2009. Stay tuned for more information and remember we provide fine art sales and full custom picture framing services in our Sisters and Redmond Oregon art galleries. Don't miss out on our great Custom Framing promotion in our Redmond Gallery that is offered through March. For location and directions please visit: Find High Desert Gallery.

The Oxford Hotel Taking Shape in Downtown Bend Oregon

Hdgoxfordhotelweb If you have recently driven or walked by NW Minnesota and Lava Street in Downtown Bend Oregon  you have likely noticed the new construction of the Oxford Hotel.  Although we haven't released an official press release on our upcoming expansion it is a known fact that High Desert Gallery is expanding.   When the Oxford Hotel opens in the fall of 2008 we will occupy about 1800 square feet of retail storefront on the corner of the building.

We love Minnesota Street, especially the shops and our soon to be neighbors.  If you haven't been down Minnesota Street lately please take the time and explore – Thump is a great coffee establishment that shouldn't be missed.  Kent and his wife do a great job on the coffee side of the house and have some thoughtful art exhibitions normally rotating monthly.  Check them out and drink some Stumptown CoffeeDouglas Fine Jewelry and Design, Staccato at the Fire Hall and more await you during your stroll.  Pegasus Books (Duncan's Blog) , Karen Bandy Design Jewelry and The Book Barn are just across Bond on Minnesota, Kebanu Gallery is around the corner on Bond and down the way at Wall and Minnesota is MockingBird Gallery, another fine art gallery concentrating on Original Art.  Don't forget to walk down the breezeway and visit the nonprofit Mirror Pond Gallery.  You can spend a good portion of your visit on Minnesota Street and capture a good essence of Downtown Bend.  Great shopping and original art can be found at Kebanu, High Desert Gallery, Mockingbird  and Mirror Pond as well as others in downtown.

This week, Jeff McDonald, Business Report for The Bend Bulletin had a nice article with Curt Baney of The Baney Corporation and their expansion to downtown Bend and the building of the Oxford Hotel.  The Hotel Image is a rendering from the Mandala Agency that was published in the Bend Bulletin's article:  Hotelier takes it up a notch

    ~~
From the Bend Bulletin's article with a quote from Curt Baney ...

The rooms of the downtown hotel will range in size from 450 square feet to 850 square feet and will be priced between $150 and $300 per night, he said. It will cater to customers who are seeking a personalized level of service and luxurious accommodations, he said.

High Desert Gallery of Central Oregon, which has locations in Sisters and Redmond, will be located at street level in the hotel and a full-service restaurant also is planned, Baney said.

“The timing is right because of the parking structure, which spring-boarded development of the hotel,” Baney said. “We love the activity in downtown Bend. It’s so vibrant and active.”
    ~~

The new upscale hotel is a great asset to downtown and will really “finish off” Minnesota Street.  We truly look forward to opening in Bend and are very excited with the location, the building and the ambiance of Minnesota Street.  More information will follow and look for a “Heck of a Gallery Opening” come the fall of 2008. Until then please continue to visit High Desert Gallery & Custom Framing in Downtown Sisters and Redmond.  The gallery features Fine Art & Stellar Customer framing where we are -- The Art and Soul of Central Oregon!
