RAVE -- Art in Public Places takes flight in Redmond Oregon.

As reported in several publications, Redmond Oregon has moved forward with the installation and dedication of its first major sculpture on Friday, May 18, 2007.  The Redmond Commission for Art in Public Places worked diligently through the approval process to have “Air Traffic Control” installed at Highland and Glacier Avenues at the west portal of Historic Downtown Redmond.   The eagle sculpture is three times larger than life, at fourteen feet in height and was the work of local sculptor, Greg Congleton.    Phil and Penny Knight donated the work of art to the City of Redmond.

Greg (pictured to left at the microphone) was raised on a cattle ranch along the headwaters of the Crooked River of Central Oregon.  Greg received his degree in business and spent 28 years as a carpenter and builder. Recently he became intrigued by steel and bronze sculpture and decided to try his hand at it and through books and workshops developed an affinity and longing for the work.   Greg is a full time artist and bronze sculpture and resides in Central Oregon.

Stars in the Sagebrush Recipients were interviewed and photographed by a small team of Terrebonne Caldera Art students.  Students then selected an inspirational quote and placed it with the photo - the quote captured what the students felt represented the essence of that individual.  We invite you to visit High Desert Gallery (Redmond) for a special reception on Friday, May 18 from 5pm to 8pm and celebrate the gifts and talents of our neighbors and friends as seen through the eyes of our students.

Stars in The Sagebrush Photography Opening - Friday May 18, 2007 5-8pm (Redmond Oregon)

 

The Stars in the Sagebrush photography exhibition, a wonderful collaboration of artists, students, the Redmond School District and The Redmond Education Foundation is an example of when members of the community come together great things happen.  Stars in the Sagebrush honors volunteers, teachers and employees of the Redmond Oregon School District.  The first annual Stars in the Sagebrush awards ceremony was held this past April  to a packed house at Eagle Crest Resort.  Please plan on attending the Opening Reception for the Photography exhibition on Friday, May 18 from 5pm to 8pm at High Desert Gallery in downtown historic Redmond.

RAVE – Three Pines House Concert Series in Bend Oregon

It’s not often you have the opportunity to get up close and personal with musicians – Especially those that are on the national circuit.  Small venues bring intimacy and a connection with the artist that is often lost in larger clubs or festivals.  Two Bendites (and gallery clients) have recently started a “House Concert” Series in their home in Bend Oregon and we hope you take them up on their hospitality. 

Jim and Susan Holmes started their house concert series ( Three Pines House Concerts) as a way to provide professional singer/songwriters with a place to perform for an eager audience, and create a way for their friends and others in the community to hear some truly talented performers.                

The Holmes collect a suggested donation ($15) from each audience member on behalf of the artists. They do not take any of the ticket proceeds, 100% of all donations go to the artist.  Pretty neat – Especially since this is their home and they provide light refreshments, however guests are welcome to bring something to share during intermission.

The House Concert Series line up is impressive and the next show scheduled is on Tuesday, May 8th with Tish Hinojosa.  (Image above).
