High Desert Gallery is
honored to host the 2009 Annual Exhibition of the Plein Air Painters
of Oregon. The Annual Show, titled “Celebration Oregon!”, is
sponsored by the Plein Air Painters of Oregon and features 40
paintings selected by juror, Cindy Briggs. "Lavender Fields Forever" (Pastel 11 1/2" x 13 1/2" ) by Karen Evans will be displayed and for sale as part of the annual show and sale.
The exhibit will be showcased in High Desert Gallery's new location
at the Oxford Hotel, 10 NW Minnesota Street at Lava, downtown Bend,
Oregon. The opening reception will be held during the First Friday
Gallery Walk And Bend Art Hop, October 2, 2009, from 5-9PM. The
evening promises to be lively as we exhibit some of the finest plein
air painting in the state, along with live music by the Anvil
Blasters, plenty of
refreshments, and artful conversation. The 2009 Annual Plein Air
Painters of Oregon Event, titled "Celebration Oregon" is an
official Oregon 150 sesquicentennial event.
"Since my earliest memories, I have noticed and loved the beautiful colors of the world. Always attracted to drawing and painting, I also spent many years exploring weaving, quilting, felting and spinning and dyeing yarns.
During the past 18 years, I have come full circle - back to painting in its various forms. First, I explored watercolor and the ability of the medium to capture luminous color. More recently, I have taken up pastel painting. Pastel has a richness and directness of applying color that enables one to paint freely and easily. My favorite color palettes employ the hues of sunrise or sunset. I often use the colors of lavender, purples, golds, and soft grays to convey the magic of the twilight hours. Painting in a fanciful style, I enjoy showing the viewer an idealistic world, a world where colors are stunningly beautiful.
My inspiration for this painting, "Lavender Fields Forever" was the shimmering mid-morning light on the lavender plants in the gardens near Smith Rock. About Karen Evans: Karen Evans is a graduate of the University of Oregon with a degree in Applied Design. She has continued with her art education in watercolor and pastel. Her work has been shown at Mirror Pond Gallery, Sage Custom Framing, and Therapy Works in Bend.
About Plein Air Painters of Oregon: Plein Air Painters of Oregon is a fellowship of professional and emerging artists who paint on location to seek the luminous quality of out-of-doors light in their art.
