High Desert Gallery and High Desert Frameworks! extends a huge thank you to Central Oregon Artist and painter, Rosalyn Kliot! Rosalyn has contributed two wonderful original mixed media collages with proceeds
going to "Smart Reading Program" in Redmond Oregon.
Both mixed media collages are my depictions of universal themes, hopefully relevant during the holiday season, and at other times. Consistent with my process, both pieces seemed to emerge on their own, with their own energy, without pre-planning.
I find the Mother and Child theme popping up frequently in my works. I think that this signifies, to me, the universal themes of family, love, joy, hope, and relationship. I find this especially meaningful during the holiday season. I titled it 'Enveloped' as this implies comfort, security, and protection. I realize, sadly, this may not be universal experience for everyone or every child, but more an ideal to hope for, and to work at.
The second piece is 'Snowy Village', also a collage, and a representation of the joy at experiencing a first snowfall during the holiday season....the 'Village' theme is a frequent one in my works, and usually reflects some aspects of European village life. The imagery is derived both from unconscious but remembered journeys, as well as visual experiences from my travels. Depicting these villages is perhaps my way of re-connecting with prior travels through Poland, Czechoslovakia,Germany, the Netherlands and France. Also, this theme lends itself well to the meandering collage process, in which the work seems to take on a life of it's own .....I try to get out of the way of myself while immersed in the process. -- Rosalyn Kliot December 2009

About Rosalyn Kliot: Rosalyn Kliot was born in Eastern Europe and raised in America, a background that allows her to have "a respect for both the traditional as well as the more contemporary and experimental approach to subject matter and theme." Rosalyn's mixed media collage and fiber art is all about color and texture. Her collage paintings combine various and sometimes disparate materials and objects. This allows free range to explore form, texture, and color in sometimes surprising ways. Removing an object from one context and placing it within another context creates new meaning, and a different sense of the known, and unknown. Although her approach may seem spontaneous, Rosalyn relies on her art training, keeping in mind formal elements, such as composition, line, color, and texture. Rosalyn Kliot received a Bachelor's degree in Fine Art from Roosevelt University in Chicago, while on a four year scholarship, with subsequent graduate work at Southern Oregon University. Her work has been exhibited and sold in Chicago, Los Angeles, Oregon, Washington, and Tokyo, Japan.
